Release Doves are white homing pigeons specifically bred for the benefit of those who wish to commemorate important milestones in life.
As an invitation only association, members of DoveGuild actively participate on objectives which they consider important. DoveGuild was formed to allow Release Dove Breeders to support each other. Secondarily, it is our intention to give full support and cooperation to existing pigeon associations.
DoveGuild is a forum for leading Release Dove breeders to talk with each other, to identify traits and breeding goals which are more appropriate for ceremonial release. Release Dove breeders identify objective tests which can be used to judge a trait and aid breeding selections. Release Dove breeders identify breeding methods that can be used to propagate traits. DoveGuild actively supports breeding standards and develops programs to help breeders judge breeding success.
DoveGuild supports efforts to educate the public on the difference between Release Doves and other less desirable birds sometimes used for ceremonial release. DoveGuild supports outreach efforts to important groups such as memorial and wedding industries. DoveGuild provides a resource for members to learn new techniques in conducting white dove release services.
A number of traits can be pursued in the development of Release Doves. No breeder will pursue all traits. Each breeder is free to improve those traits which seem most beneficial for his strain. In addition to the traits listed here, some breeders may pursue traits not listed.
